Amazon's S3 service has gone down at approximately 12pm EST today and has been down for 2 hours now.
We make use of Amazon's S3 storage for user uploaded content such as Avatars, Award icons and Gallery Images. While S3 is down, these images will not load on your site.
Amazon's S3 normally has very good uptime and is used by many high profile sites, including Amazon themselves for their sites, so this should be addressed quickly by Amazon and hopefully restored shortly.
They have issued an official response on their blog saying:
"10:33 AM PDT A quick update that we believe this is an issue with the communication between several Amazon S3 internal components. We do not have an ETA at this time but will continue to keep you updated"
As soon as Amazon S3 comes back up, your Avatars, Awards and Gallery Images will begin showing again.
NB: If al these images are caches you wont otice any diffrence
